to worship at home, May 24

When Jesus was about to be separated from his disciples, he prayed that his Father would make them holy by his truth, that is, by his word (John 17:17). This week’s sermon, “A Dying Man’s Prayer,” is about how God will answer that prayer for us, as Christ’s disciples today.

Here are the links…

  • The video of the sermon is here. I keep trying to improve the sound for these videos, and this one is louder, but scratchier. Keep bearing with me…
  • The sermon audio is on Soundcloud here, on Crosspreach here, and on Dropbox here.
  • The sermon notes are here.
  • You can hear two hymns and a prayer here, and you can use the words here to sing along.
  • The Bible study this week is on “the skill to arbitrate” as something that believers can develop that will last into eternity, from 1 Cor. 6:1-7. You can get the notes and the recording for this and all the previous weeks at

  • Welcome to Jim and Gail Hewitt who will be arriving (Lord willing) on Monday to their new house in Maplewood, just below Rex and Bonnie. You can friend Gail on Facebook, while they spend their two weeks of isolation.
  • I have Daily Bread booklets here in the Barss Corner church foyer (June, July, Aug.). Let me know how you want me to get them to you.
  • There will be a brief conference call for people from our two churches (and other friends too, if they want) to pray together, Friday, May 29 at 6:30 PM. Only 10-15 minutes long. The number to call (toll free) is 800-747-5150. It will ask you for an access code, which is 644 1013. It is fairly simple to use.
  • The VON is offering frozen meals delivered to people who could use them, in the month of May, $5 per meal. Phone 624-1897 for details, or to order.
  • I was in an online prayer meeting with pastors from across the province. Dr. Strang joined us to ask for prayer for himself (he is tired) and for our province. He warned bigger churches that he may not allow them to meet during the summer, but he gave the impression that congregations of less than 50 will be okay. (One of the many times I’m thankful to have small churches.) Let’s keep praying for our government to have lots of wisdom, and also that we will be able to meet safely soon.
  • This Sunday was supposed to be our Rural Life service. Our MLA Suzanne Lohnes-Croft mentioned to me this week that she will miss having it.
  • Please keep Charlie and Betty Ritchie of Vietnam in prayer. Betty received a very serious medical diagnosis, and they are moving back to Canada for more tests etc. Moving to New Brunswick from overseas is particularly difficult during COVID-19.
  • I would like to wish a very happy 10th wedding anniversary to my devoted wife Connie, May 25.
